Educating the Market on the Benefits of Pallet Shuttle Solutions for High-Density Storage

November 25, 2025

Warehouse operators are facing unprecedented pressure. Labour shortages, rising energy costs, safety demands, and the need to accelerate throughput are forcing businesses to rethink how they use their space. For cold stores, 3PLs, food producers, manufacturers, and retail distribution centres, high-density pallet storage has shifted from an efficiency advantage to an operational necessity.

To support this evolving landscape, Spacemaker is investing heavily in market education by providing clear, objective insight into the real-world benefits of pallet shuttle systems versus traditional methods such as Drive-In, Push-Back, and Pallet Live.

Through hands-on demonstrations, technical webinars, and digital design tools, our mission is simple: empower warehouse teams to make confident, future-ready decisions backed by data, engineering expertise, and transparent comparison.

The Spacemaker Innovation Centre - Now Open in Nuneaton

Spacemaker’s new Innovation Centre in Nuneaton is now officially open, providing the UK’s first dedicated environment to experience both 2-way and 4-way pallet shuttle technologies in full operation. Visitors can observe:

  • Up to 40% increases in storage density
  • Reductions in labour and MHE reliance
  • Energy savings driven by smarter pallet movement and reduced forklift travel
  • Significant safety improvements by limiting aisle entry
  • Live comparisons against Drive-In and Pallet Live storage

Engineers, warehouse managers, and operations leaders can now register for our Lunch & Learn sessions; exclusive events featuring demonstrations, technical guidance, and design recommendations tailored to their storage challenges.

AMHSA Members Visit the Innovation Centre

Spacemaker recently hosted members of the Automated Material Handling & Storage Association (AMHSA) for a dedicated technical visit. Delegates toured the working demonstration environment featuring our semi-automated DualAxis Pro & DualAxis, Pallet Mole® and advanced QuadAxis Pro® technologies, reviewing how shuttle systems enhance throughput, resilience, and space utilisation.

The visit highlighted the increasing importance of automation, particularly in cold storage and high-volume distribution, where reliability, density, and energy efficiency are critical.

Cold Chain Federation Webinar - Automation for Freezer & Chill Environments

As part of Spacemaker’s commitment to supporting high-cost temperature-controlled operations, Chris Hopkirk delivered a one-hour educational webinar for the Cold Chain Federation.

The discussion included maximising cubic capacity in premium freezer space, reducing labour exposure in challenging environments, minimising heat loss by reducing forklift travel, improving safety in low-visibility conditions and increasing throughput and system uptime using pallet shuttle automation.

Design Your Ideal Storage System Before You Build It

To make early-stage decision-making faster and more accurate, Spacemaker has introduced a Digital Configurator & Simulation Tool. Using customer-provided warehouse dimensions and operational data, it allows teams to:

  • Compare capacity across storage types instantly
  • Model shuttle movement, throughput, and SKU scenarios
  • Visualise designs in 2D and 3D
  • Understand labour and energy savings
  • Support CapEx planning with detailed simulation outputs

This approach prevents costly assumptions and gives operators a risk-free way to evaluate the right technology for their strategic goals.

Why Pallet Shuttle Systems Are Transforming Warehousing

Spacemaker’s high-density pallet shuttle solutions - Pallet Mole®, DualAxis Pro®, DualAxis®, and QuadAxis Pro® - play a central role in helping businesses achieve more throughput in less space while reducing operational cost. Key advantages include:

  • Increased storage density and deeper lanes
  • More SKUs in the same footprint
  • Reduced forklift damage and improved safety
  • Automated or semi-automated pallet handling
  • Reliable operation in freezer environments down to -40°C

With UK and US engineering, in-house manufacturing, proprietary software, and dedicated installation and service teams, Spacemaker delivers end-to-end project support from design through commissioning.

Supporting the Industry Through Education

From live demonstrations and specialist webinars to digital modelling tools, Spacemaker’s educational initiatives are designed to support operators. Our goal is to help warehouse teams understand:

  • When pallet shuttle systems are the right fit
  • How they compare technically and operationally with traditional methods
  • What realistic performance and savings they can expect
  • How to future-proof their storage strategy

This commitment to transparent, engineering-led guidance ensures businesses make informed decisions.
